Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Il Costolo

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Il Costolo

Grapes: 55% Corvina, 25% Corvinone and 20% Rondinella

Vineyard: Il Costolo, 1 ha 250m/asl, south-westerly exposition

Training system: guyot, ceppi/ha

Year of planting: 2001

Harvest: grapes are handpicked by the first half of October

Number of bottles: about 3,000 bottles

Winemaking: the grapes are selected in the vineyard, placed in crates and left to dry in the drying loft. The wine is left in contact with the grape skins during fermentation. It is pumped over twice a day with a delestage half way through the fermentation process.

Aging: two years in barriques and two years in 25hl Slavonian oak barrels

Tasting notes: deep ruby. Very ripe on the nose, almost toasted, with aromas of dried cranberry, cherries, figs macerated in sugar syrup and aromatic herbs. Then fresher and suave, with clean and precise flavors of cinnamon, pepper, tobacco and pot pourri. Finishes long with young, chewy but polished tannins.

Alcohol content: 16.5%
